Next generation Spectrodensitometer for Colour Management in the Graphic Arts Industry, even on substrates containing optical brighteners

Features

The next-generation of Spectrodensitometer that streamline colour adjustment in the Graphic Arts Industry, even on substrates with fluorescent whitening agents. In addition, the FD-7 offers spectral measurement of light sources to calculate colour data under actual viewing conditions and respectively is the only instrument currently available complying to Measurement Condition M1 of ISO 13655

The world's first M1 type Spectrodensitometer

Konica Minolta's patented VFS (Virtual Fluorescence Standard) technology, combined with latest LED illumination technology, enables L*a*b* measurements corresponding to ISO 13655 Measurement Condition M1 (CIE Illuminant D50).

In addition, colour measurements corresponding to ISO 13655 Measurement Conditions M0 (CIE Illuminant A) and M2 (illumination without UV-excitation (“UV-Cut”)) are also possible.

Compared to conventional instruments, which use tungsten lamps as a light source and may be  subject to repeatability issues  related  to temperature drift, the LED illumination technology of the new FD-7 and FD-5 offer an almost infinite  life time and unprecedented repeatability levels for handheld Spectrodensitometer.

Industry's first automatic wavelength compensation function

Wavelength shift error, due to temperature change, has a serious negative effect on the repeatability and long term stability of measurement results.  Until now, wavelength correction could only be carried out as one part of manufacturer’s maintenance service.

With the new FD-7 and FD-5, this function is now automatically performed whenever the white calibration is carried out and thus maintains the high reliability and repeatability of measurement values until the next service period.

Scan measurements can be performed. (FD-7 only)

When connected to a PC and in combination with the precision ruler control charts and colour profile patterns manual scan measurements of up to 28cm length can be performed  simply and very precisely.

With the optional software basICColor catch all, the colorimetric values, density values, and total radiance factor of various test charts (MediaWedge ECI2002, IT8.7/3, etc.) can be measured in a single operation.

Enables colour measurements that correspond more closely with visual evaluation.

When using conventional instruments to perform colour measurements on substrates containing fluorescent whitening agents (FWA), large differences between the results of measurements and visual evaluation may occur. With the new FD-7 and FD-5, measurement results correspond more closely to visual evaluation.

Spectral output (FD-7 only)

Since both spectral radiance data (380 to 730 nm) under various light sources (often called spectral reflectance) and spectral irradiance data (360 to 730 nm) of environmental lighting can be measured and output to a computer, it makes the FD-7 ideal for research and development applications.

Simple operation

All measurements, evaluations of density, dot area ratio, tone value increase (“dot gain”), colour, and illumination can be performed , simply and, quickly using the user friendly controls.

Instructions on the LCD screen guide operation may be displayed in a range of 6 languages.

Lightweight & Compact

The compact body of the FD-7 and FD-5 weighs about 350g, and even with the target mask attached it weighs just 430g, far less then conventional instruments. This makes it easier to carry out multiple routine measurements in a production environment.

Worry-free after-sales service

With the FD-7 and FD-5 you’ll profit from Konica Minolta’s renown global service network that provide comprehensive and fast support when needed to ensure that your instrument is always in top condition.

For Measuring Illumination (FD-7 only)

Environmental lighting conditions can be measured.

The light source in a colour viewing cabinet or the actual ambient light under which printed materials will be evaluated can be measured.

As a result, colorimetric values for the measured light source, which then closely correspond to the actual visual evaluation, can be calculated. This ensures customers receive the colours they want and thus eliminates time and costs resolving customer complaints.

Colour Management Software basICColor catch all (Optional accessory)

The display screen can be easily customized with data list view, pass/fail screen, 3D graph, etc.
Compatible with various test charts (MediaWedge, ECI2002, IT8.7/3, etc.)
Useful for process control of offset printing processes (ISO 12647-2).
