Konica Minolta Sensing offers measurement technology for photovoltaics

Nieuwegein, June 2011

Konica Minolta Sensing Europe, specialist for color and light measurement in industrial applications, enters the photovoltaic market with measurement technology. They are introducing a range of instruments including: Solar simulators, sunlight spectroradiometers and reference cells. These products are targeted at the increasingly important areas of research & development, certification and quality management in the solar industry.

„Our solar measurement technology anticipates research & development for a new generation of solar modules playing a major role in coming years. Improved measuring methods and efficient simulation technologies for solar modules, with higher efficiency, are very important for the determination of the energy output and calculation of the economical profitability. This is where we come in”, explains Andreas Ullrich, Marketing- & Sales Manager EMEA Region, Konica Minolta Sensing Europe, the launch of the new products.

With its compact solar simulator XES, sunlight spectroradiometer series S-2440/2441/2442 and reference photovoltaic cells AK-100, AK-110 and AK-200 Konica Minolta wants to set de facto standards in this industry in the medium term. For example, the spectral mismatch oft the reference cells even for multi-junction solar cells is reduced to less than 1%.
The spectroradiometers feature measurements within wavelengths of 300~1100nm, thus covering the wavelength-bandwidth of silicon, organic thin film and dye solar cells. The Solar simulator XES provides a very good spectral matching to standard sunlight (AM1.5) and meets IEC 60904-9 Class AAA requirements.

The new reference cells were developed in close cooperation with Japan's National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). Target groups include producers of photovoltaic cells, institutes for scientific research and development departments of companies, dealing with next generation solar cells. As a first step, Konica Minolta Sensing Europe are concentrating on Italy, Spain and German-speaking markets. More than 23 of the worldwide 40 gigawatts nominal capacity are installed there.

All systems will be shown for the first time at the Intersolar Fair in Munich, 8-10 June 2011.
