Konica Minolta Sensing announce a firmware update for the CL-500A

Nieuwegein, June 2013

A compact and portable Illuminance Spectrophotometer capable of measuring next generation light sources such as LED’s and EL illuminations with spectral precision.

  • The CL-500A is now capable of displaying both photopic and scotopic illuminance plus the S/P ratio of scotopic and photopic illuminance
  • Updated User Interface to facilitate changing of Colorspace
  • Includes the latest version of CL-S10w software which makes it possible to show MacAdam SDCM (standard deviation of colour matching) levels.

Scotopic illuminance
The sensitivity of the human eye under low-light conditions is different than that under bright conditions. The vision of the human eye under low-light conditions is called “scotopic vision” with a sensitivity peak wavelength shifted towards the shorter wavelengths compared to vision under bright conditions, which is called “Photopic vision”.

S/P ratio
The S/P ratio is the ratio between the scotopic and photopic value frequently used by lamp manufacturers. Due to the shift in eye sensitivity a difference in luminance/illuminance value will be measured under low luminance conditions. The S/P ratio is a simple to use index that enables the user to quantify the luminance perception of a light source under scotopic conditions.

SDCM
The Standard Deviation of Colour Matching is based upon MacAdam ellipses.
The new CL-S10w includes a template for expressing the chromaticity variation of illumination light sources such as LED’s or organic LE light sources in terms of the MacAdam SDCM step. This allows display of colour differences that closely match visual judgment.

Top class accuracy to meet DIN and JIS standards
The accuracy and overall performance of the CL-500A means that it is the first
hand-held illuminance spectrometer which fully conforms to DIN 5032 Part 7, Class B as well as JIS C1609 Class AA.

An update for CL-500A customers with earlier firmware and a previous version of CL-10Sw will be available on the download page on the website >>

An accurate and versatile instrument that can measure colour rendering index
The CL-500A measures not only illuminance (photopic/scotopic), chromaticity, and colour temperature, but also CRI (colour rendering index). The colour-rendering index is a quantification of the colour rendering properties of a lamp or other light source, and was defined to provide objective criteria. The colour-rendering index expresses the comparison of colour appearance effects between the light source being tested and a standard illuminant.

The CL-500A is ideal for a variety of applications, including:

  • Field measurement and analysis of light of a wide range of sources in terms of colour rendering index, colour temperature, chromacity and illuminance
  • Development, quality assurance and maintenance of LED signboards
  • Measurement sensor for analysis of total flux and light distribution characteristics in a integrating sphere
  • Research and colour inspection of video data projectors
  • Measurement of the photosynthetic photo flux density (ppfd) of light sources used for agriculture
  • As Master instrument in a quality management system using Illuminance Meter T-10A and Chroma Meter CL-200A
