New Luminance Meters LS-150 / LS-160

Nieuwegein, November 18th 2015

Konica Minolta Sensing, Inc. announces the introduction of the new lightweight portable Luminance Meter LS-150 and LS-160.

The new LS-150 and LS-160 are handheld digital luminance meters for measuring the luminance of light sources and objects. These lightweight instruments can be operated from a PC via USB, or using the ergonomic pistol grip and battery power, meaning this versatile luminance meter can be used for almost any application. Even difficult-to-touch objects such as high temperature products can be measured. Data management software is included as standard, which enables remote measurement, management and export of data via USB 2.0.

The LS-150 and LS-160 spot luminance meters are a truly next generation instrument, a worthy successor to the LS-100 and LS-110. The new instruments benefit from the same user friendly design features as their predecessors: including a pistol grip for accurate targeting, an optical system designed to practically eliminate the impact of flares and an internal display so measurement data can be viewed from within the viewfinder. Full measurement results are shown on a large external monochrome display. Close-up lenses (optional) are available to enable areas as small as 0.4mm diameter (LS-160) to be measured.

To provide the most accurate measurement of luminance, the relative spectral response of the measuring instrument should perfectly match the sensitivity of the human eye for photopic vision. Alongside improved usability, the LS-150/160 feature an improved correlation to V(λ) (CIE relative photopic luminosity curve). Organisations using multiple instruments can increase accuracy even further, improving the inter-instrument agreement of a group of LS meters by calibrating them to a reference light source using one of 10 user calibration channels.

The LS-150 and LS-160 offer operators a dramatically improved measurement range of 0.001 cd/m2 to 999,900 cd/m2 (LS-150) and 0.01 cd/m2 to 9,999,000 cd/m2 (LS-160) providing accurate data for an even wider range of applications. Practically anything that illuminates or reflects light can be measured with Konica Minolta's portable luminance meters. The possible uses range from research and development to production. The integration time can even be adjusted to suit constant or flickering light sources.

Aside from the measurement of absolute values, the instrument can also display values relative to a defined standard. Enabling the operator to quickly identify and record differences in luminance across large surfaces.
